Sara Beer joins Ramps Cymru as Director for Change

Ramps Cymru, a collaboration between five Welsh organisations to improve the representation of disabled people, has today announced that Sara Beer will their first Director for Change. An established performer, director and disability advocate Sara will drive Ramps Cymru in creating meaningful and sustainable change to improve the representation of disabled people (including Deaf, neurodivergent and learning-disabled people) across Wales’ mainstream theatre sector. This senior appointment will work across all five partner organisations: Theatr Clwyd, Sherman Theatre, Pontio Arts, The Torch Theatre and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.

Sara began her acting career with the acclaimed Graeae Theatre Company before returning to Wales and working with Disability Arts Cymru (DAC), supporting disabled artists across Wales, running projects and creating showcasing opportunities. During her time Sara co-ordinated and directed the Unusual Stage School, DAC’s company of Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent performers which provided training as well as performance opportunities.

Sara has collaborated with playwright Kaite O'Reilly on a variety of projects, including the original UK d monologues, (National Theatre Wales), as an emerging director for In Water I'm Weightless, performing in Cosy, and O'Reilly's Unlimited International Commission And Suddenly I Disappear, Richard III redux.

She has recently been performing with National Theatre Wales in Cost of Living at the Swansea Grand Theatre.

I am passionate about creating opportunities for Deaf and disabled theatre practitioners so am delighted to be taking on the role of Director for Change for Ramps Cymru. I am looking forward to working with the theatre sector across Wales to really make a difference.

This first stage of change for Ramps Cymru includes audits of each partner organisation, sector conversations, training across partner organisations, and modelling details for the next 5 years of a change programme.
