BBC Culture Correspondent Vacancy for disabled and/or Deaf person

Job Purpose

BBC Wales News’ Specialist Journalism team cover the big stories in politics and policy as they affect our audiences.  We provide news and analysis for our television, radio and digital services in both English and Welsh.  The Culture Correspondent is a new role that we’ve created to expand the depth and reach of our journalism.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

As Culture Correspondent you’ll be comfortable covering everything from Welsh National Opera to the latest blockbuster, from Tom Jones concerts to cuts to local arts funding.  It’s a wide-ranging brief that’ll bring you into contact with diverse slices of Welsh life.

We expect you to break the biggest stories and land the big interviews, and report on them all in a confident, professional and engaging way that makes sure we reach all our audiences.

You’ll be crafting packages for television and radio, reporting live in studio and on location, and writing in an engaging and insightful way for our digital audiences.  You’ll also be a regular face on our social channels.

We’d also expect to you to play a role in making editorial decisions – including prioritising your own time – across the wider newsroom.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

You’ll have a talent from broadcasting and have a proven track-record as a story-getter and a leader in a newsroom setting.  You’ll also be able to write in an engaging way and have creative ideas for how to bring stories alive and make the difficult understandable.

Ideally you’ll already have an extensive network of contacts in the culture, arts and media world, and you’ll be used to delivering to tight deadlines.
